Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used and shared when you visit https://photographyandlaw.com/ (“the Site”).

Consent

By using this Site, you hereby consent to our Privacy Policy and agree to its Terms and Conditions.  You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.  You can also update your personal information at any time.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Information we collect

We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so – for example, to communicate with you.  We collect this information from three sources:  if and when you provide information to us, automatically through the host website (Automattic.com – see privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/) operating our services, and from outside sources.

Information we collect automatically:

Device Information – When you visit our Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone and some of the cookies that are installed on your device.  Additionally, as you browse our Site, we may collect information about which individual web pages, websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and how you react with the Site.  This automatically-collected information is known as Device Information.   This is collected using the following technologies:

  • Cookies – these are data files that are placed on your computer or other device, and often include an anonymous unique identifier.  For more information about cookies and how to disable them, visit http:/www.allaboutcookies.org.
  • Log Files – these track movements occurring on the Site and collect data, for example your IP Address, Internet Service Provider, type of browser, dates and times of Site entry and exit.
  • Pixels, Tags, Web Beacons – these are electronic files which record information about how you browse the Site.

Gathering of Non-Personal Identifiable Information

Log Information – Like most host website operators, we automatically collect non-personal identifiable information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, IP address, unique device identifiers, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of access, operating system, and mobile network information. The purpose in collecting non-personal identifiable information is to better understand how visitors use our Site.

Gathering of Personal Identifiable Information

We store personal information for only as long as we have a reason to keep it and aim for full transparency on how we gather, use and share your personal information.

Aggregated Statistics

We may collect statistics about the behaviour of visitors to our Site. For instance, we may monitor the most popular pages or use screen spam by the Akismet service to help identify spam. We may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, we do not disclose personal-identifiable information other than as described below.

How and why we collect and use information:

We use our Site to communicate with you.

We collect and use certain information to ensure quality, maintain safety, and improve and protect our website, our users and bloggers, and the public.  For example, by detecting and protecting against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent or illegal activity, fighting spam, complying with our legal obligations, and protecting the rights and property of our Site and others, which may result in the Site, for example, declining a blog or terminating comments.

Some visitors to our Site choose to interact with us in ways that require us to gather personal identifiable information. The amount and type of information that we gather depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who comment on our blog to provide a username and email address tohelp with spam detection.  For those who wish to receive the Site’s updates via email, we collect their email address. In each case, we collect such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfil the purpose of your interaction with us. The Site does not disclose personal identifiable information other than as described below.   If you wish, you can refuse to supply personal identifiable information, with the caveat that it may prevent you from engaging in certain website-related activities.

Legal Bases for Collecting and Using Information

The information that this Site collects and uses is subject to EU Data Protection Laws.

How long we keep information

We will only keep records of your personal information for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purpose for which we have collected it, and in order to comply with any statutory or regulatory obligations in relation to retention of records, and will respect a request to stop processing your personal data.  This includes keeping a record of your request indefinitely so that we can respect your request in future.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely, unless you request the removal of this data.  Comments and other content submitted to Akismet anti-spam service are not saved unless they were marked as false positives, in which case they are stored long enough to use them to improve the service to avoid future false positives.

For users that register on our Site (if any), the Site will store the personal information they provide in their user profile.  All users can see, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username).  The Site administrator(s) can also see and edit that information.

Public profile information – if you provide a public profile, for example: Username, ‘About me’ description, photo, etc. – please keep in mind that this is public when deciding what information you would like to include.

Protection of Certain Personal Identifiable Information

We will not rent or sell potentially personal identifiable and personal identifiable information to anyone.  Potentially personal identifiable and personal identifiable information will only be disclosed in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when the Site believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of the Site, third parties or the public at large. If you are a registered user of this Site and have supplied your email address, we may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on. We primarily use our Blog to communicate this type of information, so we expect to keep this type of email to a minimum. If you send us a request (for example via a support email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. We will take all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personal identifiable and personal identifiable information.
